Newbie questions re. licensing & compatibility

Hi everyone!

I've done a few contracts that involved some general fooling around with
AIX and finally decided to get me a RS/6000 off eBay. Now, I don't have a
clue where to get the AIX license/media. The easiest way would of course
be, to borrow one from one of my clients, but I don't think I need to
elaborate on why this doesn't appeal to me.

So, how does licensing work? Is there just a fee for the media (like with
Uniprocessor Solaris) or is there an additional license fee to be paid?

And another question that I wasn't able to find an answer to on either
IBM's AIX pages and the Redbooks: What about hardware compatibility? Are
5.1/5.2 compatible with the slow rs6k-Architecture box that I've acquired?
What about 4.3.3? (Okay, dumb question, 4.3.3 came installed on the
machines disk.) Can anyone point me to some kind of compatibility matrix?
I'm not talking about performance (I'm pretty daunting at that and don't
feel too uncomfortable with 2-figure MHz numbers), but about compatibility.
The box in question is a 7012-360 with 128 MB RAM.

Thanks in advance everyone,

-martin

             And that`s the good part.
