Edward,
I got this from my Tech who was at the customer site:
I'm sure with AIX version 3.2.5 the mksysb only backs up rootvg. This is why we would be unable to do a importvg. I have created the volume group vg1 and the particular logical volumes associated with this volume group.
Any thoughts?
Steve

And I thought the 2 x 32H machines I still have were old :-)
If you are just reloading the O/S on the same disks then you should still be able to do an "importvg/varyonvg" of vg1 and not have to restore from tape (if you didn't already try and create a new vg on those disks). I don't know if this would work if you upgraded the O/S level though.

Subject: Re-loading from DTAPE Back-Up Tool
Gurus,
I have a customer with an old 7025-520 who is trying to re-load. My technician has provided me with the following:
At AIX level 3.2.5 the operating system is loaded in rootvg.
The data was backed up via a DTAPE backup tool and will reside in a seperate volume group called vg1.
How do we restore the data to this volume group( vg1) ?
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Steve Latimer
