Hi,

I have an XP1000 with Tru64 V5.1 and I thought I could replace a Seagate
disk that was reported by hwmgr as
   61: /dev/disk/dsk7c SEAGATE ST318436LW bus-4-targ-2-lun-0
with a Seagate ST314680LW 146gb HDD. The disk is recognised at the console
>>> prompt via "sho dev" but the during boot the system does not create a
device for the disk. Why I ask myself, why does this always have to happen,
when I want to go on holidays. I thought one Seagae LW disk would be the
same as anyother Seagate LW disk. It would appear not. Currently on the bus
there is a
   59: /dev/disk/dsk5c COMPAQ BD009222C7 bus-4-targ-0-lun-0
and there should also be an IBM 36gb disk connected but I have remove that
one for the moment.

Does anyone know what the problem might be
(a) the thing is too big for Tru64 (73gb is not to big, so what is with
146gb),
(b) the thing doesn't want to talk some old scsi (I thought scsi was upwards
compatible),
(c) the thing should be run in single ended mode (this is an option for
Seagate LW disks via jumpers), I'm not sure what single ended is all about,
I have looked on the net, and all I can work out is that single ended has a
low resistance and shouldn't be added to either HVD or LVD scsi connections.
I assume that the devices are all LVD, however I'm not totally sure about
the COMPAQ disk. As for the scsi card, I think its a qlogic, not a lot
there.
