NFS problem with OSF and Solaris

Managers,

I have a heterogeneous environment using Solaris and OSF1- V5.1 systems.

I'm using automounter on OSF1 systems that mount from Solaris systems.

I'm a newbie to Alpha-Unix.

problem on OFS1 systems: every 5-10 sec an error-message:"NFS2 Server
NAME not responding. Still trying" and then after a few seconds "NFS2
Server NAME ok"
this is causing data transfer problems and transfer comes to a halt.

the corresponding computer is Solaris 8 system running NFS3. OSF1
system is running V5.1 and using NFS2.

for automounter options on OSF1 system, I'm using tcp for better
reliability.

can anyone help to explain why this nfs error occurs? is there a patch
or other options that need to be set for automounter. one web search
suggested to not use OSF1 automounter as automountd could become
overloaded.

any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. this problem is
causing significant loss in production time to users.

thank you.
