Hi all,

thanks to all who responded (in order of appearance in my inbox): Chris
Adams, Paul A. Sand, Jay R. Wren, Greg Freemeyer, Xavier Mertens.

The general consensus is this is a bug in Tru64Unix 5.1A software and
there is a patch T64V51AB1-C0011900-13158-M-20020207 and
T64V51AB01AS0001-20020116 available at Compaq which should solve this. I
contacted Compaq Service center just now and will see, if they tell me,
where I can find it (I didn't find them on the support website).

Thanks to all and sencerely,

  David Komanek
