Hello fellow Sun Managers

I have a Sun Blade 100 , running Solaris 8 , patch revision
Generic_108528-17.

When rebooting the machine , it freezes , we have identified that this takes
place during exceution of the
startup script /etc/rc2.d/S72inetsvc , in particular the following line :

/usr/sbin/ifconfig -auD4 netmask + broadcast +

If I run the scripts in /etc/rc2.d 'by hand' , in the Bourne Shell , then it
does not have a problem
running the above command. I have tried putting 'sleep' statements in at
various point in this
script and its predecessor script , to no avail.

We did not used to have this problem on this machine - here is how we got the
problem :

Initially the machine was a NIS+ client , hostname 'laconia'. We then wanted
to convert
it into a NIS+ root master , hostname 'emys'.

Initially I did 'sys-unconfig' and then reconfigured the machine as 'emys' (
also with a new
IP address ) , however this was unsatisfactory , as the reconfiguration
utility could not
cope with the machine being a NIS+ server. So instead I reconfigured the
machine as
NIS+ client laconia. Then I grepped for 'laconia' in /etc , and also the IP
address in
/etc , since this was also to be changed. I altered these by hand , now the
machine
has the desired identity and IP address , NIS+ root service runs fine , NIS+
clients
can use it fine. But since then , we have had the problem with 'ifconfig'

I will summarize , thanks in advance
