a quick update:
i received numerous recommendations to check my eeprom
settings for ttya. my ttya settings are below.
checking my other sun boxes - they have the same ttya
settings. any other ideas?
ttya-rts-dtr-off=false
ttya-ignore-cd=true
ttya-mode=9600,8,n,1,-
