OT Veritas File System snap feature

Hi fellow sysadmins

I have successfully tested the working of this feature in a lab
environment, but I need some success stories on using the VXFS Snap feature
used to perform backups. We are running out of our allowed backup window
when backing up a single stream of 230 GB on a single mountpoint.

Since the data on here is basically just growing, and changing very little,
I expect a snap-file system would need very little actual space! Is this
true?

But most importantly, are backups created using a snapof mountpoints
reliable?

Please give me some basic details of your implementation (eg Size, nr of
backups, how often, how many times have you tested restores, etc), would
you recommend this strategy in a high-availability environment where data
integrity is critical.

Also, how do you check the utilization on the snap device, and how do you
know when you need to get a bigger one?

Thanx,
  _Johan
