Hi,
I have an Ultra 80 quad-CPU with 4GB RAM and hme0 as well as qfe[0-3] inet
interfaces, running Solaris 10. All interfaces currently point into the same
network. I am running Sun Ray version 3.1 software.
A patch list is enclosed just in case.
The basic issue is this: I plug in Sun Ray 150s or Sun Ray 1s that I buy on
eBay (this is a personal network). Sometimes they come up (I'm typing this on
one of the ones that works), sometimes they don't. When they don't, they hang
at an hourglass with two bars underneath.
I understand from searching the Web that two bars underneath an hourglass
indicates two things: (a) old firmware; (b) DHCP request sent; response not
received.
What I don't understand is how to upgrade the firmware on these units when
the utfwadm and utfwsync commands don't seem to do anything. I also don't
understand what it means to set up a "dedicated interconnect". There is
some talk in existing documents online concerning older Sun Ray models being
unable to accept firmware upgrades or DHCP addresses on a shared network,
but rather requiring what's called a "dedicated interconnect". I'm not sure
what this is, or how to set it up.
I have my Ultra-80 with static IP addresses, connected to a home router
(Linksys) which provides DHCP to other clients on my network. I have tried
both with running another DHCP server on the Ultra-80, and with trying to
use the Linksys DHCP addresses. I've found that the Sun Rays that do work
fine on my network prefer the Linksys addresses -- when I turn off DHCP
on the Linksys router, and dhcpd is still running on the Ultra-80, the
Sun Rays are unable to pick up the addresses and connect.
At any rate, I'm kinda new to all of this network stuff and was hoping
someone could give me a quick step-by-step on how to get my older Sun
Ray clients upgraded and working in a "shared LAN" configuration.
I will post a summary to the list.
