Wish to Synchronize System Files / Patches / etc, between machines

Hi All,

We have a large EMC environment, where certain applications are "clustered"
on either end of SRDF links. I use the word clustered loosely, as we
manually failover applications by deporting diskgroups from the failed host
and import them into the DR host.

My manager has asked me to find a way to guarantee that the host we are
failing over to, is always up-to-date with the Live running box. He gave
an example when failing over an application did not work, because various
user accounts were not synchronised. (The failover worked but few users
could log in) He also mentioned if certain patches had been added to one
system, how could you guarantee that the patches were installed on the
second. To this end there is a procedure were the system disks (internal)
are mirrored to a disk on the EMC. This disk is then mirrored to the
second EMC via SRDF. When failure occurs the SRDF link is split and the
data disk is somehow imported into the DR system. The internals of the DR
systems are then overwritten by the SRDF System disk and then the machine
is rebooted with the personality of the old system.

This doesn't seem to me good. However it does guarantee useraccount's /
kernel information and patches etc are identical on the DR system.

My question is then simply: Does anyone know of a better way of achieving
the same results?

regards

rb
