Smartd help

hi
I'm trying to configure smartd to email me out on a
disk failure.
Sounds easy but I have

/dev/rdsk/c1t1d0 -S on -o on -a -I 194 -m emailaddress

in my smartd.conf and smartd is starting ok, but when
I shutdown and
take out the disk, nothing happens...should i be
referring to a slice
not a raw disk ? Are the fact they are metadevices
mucking it up (don't
think that would matter) ? Does it not care the disk
isn't there now as
thats not a "failing" as such ?

The system can send mail fine from the command line
and the logs shows
smart knows the disk isn't there now.

Any help appreciated.
