Old Solaris in new iron, old iron using new Solaris

Hi, sunmanagers all around the world.

The time is comming to upgrade my old ULTRA-1 server farm (circa 1996,
Solaris 2.5.1) to new hardware.

My questions are these:

- Can I simply "clone" my HD's and boot a new system based in something
like UltraSparc III?. My old servers are Ultra-1 UltraSparc I, 143 Mhz.
They runs Solaris 2.5.1. The "new" prospective servers could be
something like (ebay rules) SUN Ultra-80 (4 x 450mhz, fairly modern
UltraSparc CPU). Network config aside, can I hope this step to be as
simple as it sounds?. What's the last supported hardware for Solaris 2.5.1?.

- For 2006 timeframe:

  - Can I install Solaris 10 in that hardware?. What's the oldest
hardware supported?.

  - Can I "upgrade" a Solaris 2.5.1 install to Solaris 10, more or less
easily?. My deployment is heavily customiced, but I have about 15 years
of administration and programming under Solaris. I suppose that Solaris
10 ZONES can't run a Solarions 2.5.1 "zone". No hope there, I assume.

Ideas welcomed. I will summarize.

Thanks for your time and attention.

PS: I don't want to upgrade to "current" hardware, because my employer
could rather prefer to "upgrade" to cheap linux boxes.
