We have issued the eeprom command to make the change with the
following results:

Front Status Panel:

DISK ERROR THERMAL ERROR POWER SUPPLY ERROR
                      [OFF] [OFF] [OFF]

Disk LED Status: OK = GREEN ERROR = YELLOW

The architecture of the E-450 is unique. This PROM setting is
 unique to the E-450.

When I installed additional 8-bay enclosures on my machines
(about 5 years ago for 4 machines, some 8 years ago for another
machine) I was strongly reminded by the seller to be sure to set
this parameter. It's been so long ago that I don't remember the
details of the 'why'. As I recall, the documentation with the
kit
went into an explanation, but mine is lost in the dust of time.

If you haven't done it, I strongly suggest that you do it.

BTW, you quote the document as: 'setenv disk-led-assoc x y'. The
 correct quote is: 'setenv disk-led-assoc 0 x y'. The 0 is for
the
 4-slot backplane.

I found this web page:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/805-0429-10/6j0fk0g0l?q=disk-led-assoc&
a=view.

This just repeats what you have said.

FWIW, I've always thought that the 450 Server Owner's Guide is
one
of the better manuals Sun has offered, although I mostly just
gathers dust.
