error message after issueing yppasswd

Good morning,

After issueing issueing the command yppassword and going through the subsequent steps a colleague of mine receives an error message:

[sunhost1:~]$ yppasswd
Changing NIS account information for johndoe on sunhost1.
Please enter old password:
Changing NIS password for yng on ncocsun06.
Please enter new password:
Please retype new password:

Error while changing the NIS password.
The NIS password has not been changed on sunhost1.

Whereas I am able to follow through the steps successfully after issueing yppasswd on the same host:
