Expanding root partition using growfs

All,

I am stumped a bit here and need a little bit of assistance. I am trying to
expand my root partition using DiskSuite on a E450 running Solaris 9. I am
trying to expand it over 3 additional slices that I have set up on 3
different disks. I have tried the following:

metainit -f d11 4 1 c0t0d0s0 1 c0t1d0s0 1 c0t2d0s0 1 c0t3d0s0
edit the /etc/vfstab
= system does not reboot

metainit -f d11 4 1 c0t0d0s0 1 c0t1d0s0 1 c0t2d0s0 1 c0t3d0s0
metaroot d11
= Concat d11 has more than 1 slice

metainit -f d11 4 1 c0t0d0s0 1 c0t1d0s0 1 c0t2d0s0 1 c0t3d0s0
metainit d10 -m d11
metaroot d10
= Concat d11 has more than 1 slice

Obviously for the first attempt I am unable to unmount the root partition in
order to edit the /etc/vfstab and remount it as the virtual metadevice in
order to growfs. So I was resorting to a reboot. Big mistake as I had to
boot from cdrom... yada yada yada. Then figured that I had to do the
metaroot in order for the system to know how to boot. Seems it doesn't like
that either. Does anyone know the proper steps in order to do this? I am
guessing that this has to be possible.

TIA,

Paul Fiengo
