SUMMARY: StorEdge S1: ssmond won't start

Thanks to Dan Lannom and NW Hinkle-DeGroot for their suggestions.
In addition to the tests outlined below, I also uninstalled and
then reinstalled the SSM software, and shut down the system and
did a "boot -r". None of this helps -- even on a freshly booted
system, ssmond won't start because it insists it is already running.

Our Sun Systems Engineer also looked at the problem but had no
suggestions.

So this remains an unsolved mystery. We are likely going to
run the system without any drive/temperature/status monitoring
for the StorEdge S1, unless we unexpectedly manage to find a
solution to the problem.

Subject: StorEdge S1: ssmond won't start

After rebooting our Sun Fire V480 last week (we added a processor board,
a Sun Crypto Accelerator 1000 card, and our own build of Apache at the
same time), the Storage Subsystem Manager for the attached StorEdge S1
has stopped working (it was working fine before the reboot). Note that
the StorEdge S1 and the drives it contains are working fine. We're
running Solaris 8 H/W 05/03 kernel patch 108528-22.

# /etc/init.d/ssmgmt start
starting SSM server:
# /opt/SUNWssmu/bin/ssmadmin -view
Cannot connect to remote host: localhost
# ps -ef | grep smmond
    root 8455 7335 0 12:11:08 pts/11 0:00 grep smmond
# /opt/SUNWssmu/bin/ssmond -f /etc/opt/SUNWssmu/ssmon.conf
ssmond: SSM Server already running.
Exiting...

Any suggestions for getting ssmond and ssmadmin working again?

I've RTFM and Google'd. Can't find any SSM-related lock/pid/socket/door
files. "lsof -i" and "netstat -a" are not showing anything I can't
account for.

Here's the last part of the output from
truss -f -l /opt/SUNWssmu/bin/ssmond -f /etc/opt/SUNWssmu/ssmon.conf
