Greetings Gurus,
A long story short; we have a developer who has architected a system for
processing log files. We expect to see our data growth exceed 3TB in the
next year.
We purchased a StorageTek 4400 and a 2400 and connected them to a SAN (via
2 brocade silkworm 2800 switches) and they are in turn connected to a Sun
E4500 and a Sun E450, both running Solaris 5.8 Generic_108528-13, fully
patched and up to date.
The disks are configured over 6 luns, of 4 drives each, in a Raid 10
configuration. Veritas VM is configured to present those luns as 4
volumes striped over 3 columns.
Below is the vxprint output.
The problem is, the developer is expecting to see 40meg/sec writes and
80meg/sec reads. We're seeing 40meg reads and 20meg/sec writes. I've been
told that you can only expect 8megs/sec write/read performance in the real
world per drive which would co-incide with my findings of 48megs/sec
(read/write average)
The tests that we're doing are basic parallel cp's, find | cpio, tar, scp,
ftp, and nfs copies.
The question is, where should I start looking for tuning if at all
possible, Im thinking NFS tuning, but Im wondering if creating 2 volumes
striped across 12 drives each would gain us much. Does anyone out there
have experience with this?
