How do I get an Exabyte 430 LVD tape drive to be seen in Solaris 8.

I have a Exabyte 430 tape drive hooked up to a V480 with a dual LVD
SCSI3 card. Probe-scsi-all sees the devices (Library and tape drives)
but the OS (Solaris 8) does not. I have st.conf configured per Exabyte
and another working Solaris 9 server. I have done dozen's of boot -r and
devfsadm etc and in no case does the OS see drives and make appropriate
files in /dev/rmt. Sun now says this card does not work with Tape
drives. Can any one confirm this. Yes I do have the qus drivers (all 4
packages) and patches installed. Oh and I do have st patch rev 12
loaded as well.
Thanks for any help, I am behind on a critical deadline so I am just shy
of panic.
