Thanks to Aynal Hossain, Bill Hassell, Larry Sybrandt, and Dave Johnson.
All basically said that mounting read only was a good practice to protect
the data itself. It may also speed dismounting since the OS doesn't have to
post any last minute transactions.

Probably a silly question, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

disks off the main system and mount them to a backup server. My

when mounting, does it buy anything if I mount them read-only?
Other than
protecting the data itself from change (which may be a good enough
reason).
