[HPADM] SUMMARY : Root cant login from console

Hi all,

Thanks to all those who replied. Specially to Eef Hartman, Greg keenan who
came back with the correct answer before i could blink.

The problem was with an illegal character in the root passwd. ( A # in my
case) which would not get translated correctly.
The replies of a few people are as below

1. Often this is due to an illegal char in the password, for instance a @
 (default "kill" char) or a # (default "erase" one).
 After you logged in those functions are mostly reset to other chars, so
that
 then with su they are legal again.

2. My guess is your root password has a character in it that isn't
translated correctly when using the console/kbd/term e.g. _ or % etc..
