[HPADM] Tuning semmni: Summary

Many thanks to those who responded.

The general consensus is that default kernel parameters, especially in
10.20, reflect a long-gone age of hardware, and that in general they are set
very low. In my case, it seems that having semmni set to 25 and doubling it
to 50 isn't going to impact performance, especially given that I'm running
OpenMail and not something like an Oracle database.

There was also this related note:

<<I would care about the dbc_max_pct making sure it is set such that you
don't
exceed 200 - 300 MB
as larger buffer cache might cause performance problems with hpux 10.20>>

Thanks to Rita for providing this userful URL and place to check what's
current on the system:

1. To help you with kernel tuning may I recommend the following url:
http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/J2716-9
0017/J2716-90017_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/J2716-90017/00/00/33-con.html
&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/J2716-90017/00/00/33-toc.html&searchterms=kernel%7ctun
ing&queryid=20020820-063410

2. Another great place to review is what is provided on your system -
check out:
/usr/share/doc/mem_mgt.txt (and others there)
and for basic parm template check out the oltp files under -
/usr/sam/lib/kc/tuned
