[HPADM] Summary: Tape Recovery

Thanks to :Jeff Cleverley, Peter van Eck and Mark Schupsky

Peter and Mark suggested gnutar, which Mark stated is a "more robust version of tar. It worked for me a few times when normal tar would not read a tape."

Peter added that" the GNU tar version has an option to skip the bad blocks on a tape."

Jeff provided some names of data recovery firms, which is the information I thought I needed.

I did not get a chance to test this information, as I relaized there was one tape drive (on a production server) that I had not tried yet. This newer tape drive read the tape with no problems and I am now rearchiving this information on CD.
