Multiple default gateways on AIX 5.2

I have a server with network connections to 2 different networks. I am
trying to set up a different default gateway to both interfaces but when I
change the default gateway on one interface, it changes the default gateway
on the other not letting me set 2 different gateways. I thought with AIX
5.2 you were allowed to do this. Is there more configuration I need to do
with dead gateway detection or multipath?
