What I usually use is 'shutdown -m' to get to "M"aintenance mode.

>From the manpage on shutdown:

-m Brings the system down to maintenance (single user) mode.

I am trying to switch to single user mode by # telinit S, but nothing
were change ( ex: I am still reach the server from another host) , Could

AIX V5.2 with maintenance level 2
