Pine 4.58 & TOC overflow

I am trying to install Pine4.58 on aix 4.3.1.0. When I run ./build a41 to
compile the source code, I got an error message as following:

id: 0711-781 ERROR: TOC overflow. TOC size: 74004 Maximum size: 65536
collect2: ld returned 12 exit status

We have gcc-2.95.3 running.
If someone knows how to fix this TOC probelm, please help me.
