I tried this command:
tar -cvBf obs=0k /dev/rmt1 .
and also it's not completing - it say's 'Reached enf-of-file before
completing'

yes, you can. which tar are you using? what block size did you try?
i usually just set it to zero.

can you create a TAR using DLT IV tape?
I tried changing the block size, but message keeps on saying 'invalid
TAR type'.
