hi sekhar,
this chdev cmd has to be used, only when, even after running cfgmgr also
if the disk does not get a pvid then you need to explicitly indicate that
this disk has to be made to an active pv..that's all..so this command does
that job for you that's all....

Warm Regards

Subject: Running chdev

Hi,

I remember once that when one of the SSA disk had failed. I
replaced it and then ran cfgmgr -vl ssar and then did a extendvg to add the
disk to the appropriate diskgroup.I did not run any other commands. But, the
IBM document says that after you add a disk and after running cfgmgr, you
will have to run chdev -l hdisk1 -a pv=yes. Is this true and if yes why...?

Thanks,

shekar
