This is the common recommendation for nmon:

$ nmon
opening /dev/kmem: Permission denied
As root use: chmod ugo+r /dev/kmem
to fix this

Subject: [aix-l] Safe to add read attributes to /dev/kmem?

Hello,

        Our DBA's want to run top but can't because of the permissions on
/dev/kmem. I was thinking of running a simple chmod o+r /dev/kmem command
but wanted to run it by the group before I hit [return].

Is there anything wrong with this?

TIA,
Anthony
