I'm not going to push this issue too far, but I was not aware that ppp was
a "new and improved" slip. I had always thought of them as separate
protocols ??? Kind of like comparing BSD and SYS V unix...

Am I incorrect ?

slip has built-in support for scripting

you only want to check the modems that are not currently in use, dont
you?
