Don't forget to look at the options that Linux may have for disaster
recovery. AIX is known to have arguably the best built in tools for disaster
recovery. Consider the exact applications that will be running on each
platform. In some cases it may be better to switch to Linux, in other cases,
it may be better to keep the AIX.

Another factor is the underlying hardware support. I have more faith in IBM
hardware then I do intel hardware, especially for mission critical
applications, or for applications that need to scale well. True you pay more
for the IBM hardware but that brings to mind perhaps the most famous of all
cliché's: "You get what you pay for".

For my production environment I definitely prefer AIX over Linux, but I am a
very "Linux friendly" person and I do try to introduce Linux into networks
when possible.

AHHH!!! You're making me choose between my two favorites!!!!

Subject: AIX vs. Linux

Hi everyone,

I am doing a kind of list AIX vs. Linux running on both pSeries and
(especially) xSeries. It's about
possibilities for business usage of Linux in our company. Our management
would like to
achieve some cost savings through migrating some applications from AIX to
Linux, or/and ...

After looking a round I still haven't got a clear picture. (Except that the
IBM does great advertising
in this field. But that's another story.) I guess many of you have been
confronted with the same
question. Any experience with this theme to share, opinions or suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Ciao
Vesna
