Andy,

Here is a previous thread about SDD, but does not address ibm2105rte.

Kevin:
It was not just vary off and unmount. You actually had to rmdev all vpath
devices and after upgrade recreate vpaths by executing cfgmgr -S (the -S is
undocumented option which configures devices serially as opposed to the
default which is parallel). Also you you needed to run cfgmgr at least the
same number of times as the number of adapters that you have. This enabled
the same vpaths to be assigned to the origianl hdisks and not get messed
up.
Yes its a huge improvement. As far as reboot is concerned, its not any
different from many upgrades, where bosboot is issued during install/update,
which would require a re-boot for the changes to take effect. This is
particularly true for device driver upgrades.

Viren,So, it's easier now because you just upgrade and re-boot as opposed to
theextra work of varyingoff, umounting and so on?At first I didn't see what
good it was if you have to re-boot still, becauseyour apps are going to come
down anyway.Your point is that it saves you from other stuff you had to do
as well?I have yet to upgrade SDD so this interests me.Kevin

who replied.I upgraded with all vpath vg's varied on and offcourse all

progress. Thanks IBM/SDDdevelopment team.

I am planning to upgrade SDD for AIX, specificallyibmSdd_432.rte
1.2.2.2 to 1.3.1.3This version allows for upgrade without the hairy
procedures for pastupgrades (varyoff vg's, unmount all fs, rmdev all vpaths
andreconfigure after upgrade). While I was on the phone with the IBM support,
after first saying thatthe i/o needs to be stoppped (unmount filesystems),
which is also inthe install guide, he did some searchs and said it was not
necessaryto even stop the i/o - the install guide is outdated.Has anyone
done the upgrade and confirm either way. This is for a S85 running AIX 4.3.3,

Subject: [aix-l] Upgrade SDD fileset

Greetings,

Do you know if I can upgrade the Subsystem Device Driver (SDD) using
non-disruptive installation method? I currently have ibmSdd_433.rte 1.2.2.1
and want to upgrade to ibmSdd_433.rte 1.3.1.3. I also want to upgrade
ibm2105.rte 32.6.100.4 to ibm2105.rte 32.6.100.9.

Two S85s, AIX 433 ML06 in HA environment.

Any help/tips will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy
