Hi Managers,

Many thanks to Thomas Sjolshagen of hp who confirmed that the OS would crash
if I tried to power off the expansion drawer.
Looks like I'm going to be spending a few more weekends moving things
around...

Cheers,

Rob

Subject: ES47 hardware

Hi Managers,

I've got an AlphaServer ES47 Model 2 which is connected to a Standard PCI
Expansion drawer.
The system is set up for NSPOF, so in the 2P drawer, I've got a fibre card,
ethernet, memory channel.
In the expansion drawer I've got another fibre card, ethernet, memory
channel for redundancy.

I need to add a second 2P drawer into the rack to upgrade to an ES47 Model
4. However in order to physically accomodate the second 2P drawer in the
rack, I need to move the PCI Expansion drawer up a few U.

I can only get limited downtime for the system, so I'm hoping to be able to
get most of the physical work done without actually shutting down the OS
(5.1B-2).

Would it be safe to simply power off the PCI Expansion drawer, causing
everything to failover to the cards in the 2P drawer, or is this action
likely to cause the OS to crash ?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Rob
