Question concerning defragment

To all,

I have a question concerning advfs defragment utility.

I have a domain that reports 99% efficiency but has 9 out of 30 files that
are listed at less than 25 percent and 3 are at 0 percent efficient. The
number of pages for these files are greater in size than the others. Also
these files are oracle data files.

The server is running 5.1b patch kit 3, we are using the direct io flag for
opening the files and the server is a NUMA machine....

My question is how can this be??? Also I don't usually defragment the
oracle file system areas. I am informed from the DBAs that they are
handling this. We were having strange performance problems with a
development database that had an unusual number of block reads. I ran
defragement on it while it was down one afternoon and the performance shot
up, fewer reads, better database performance. Coincidence???

TIA,
Lee Brewer
