Dear All,

I had some helpful comments from Martin Petder, but I dug around on the HP
website, and came up with:

    Models

HP StorageWorks Network Storage Router e1200

262672-B21 MSL5000 EMBEDDED FIBRE OPTION KIT – GRAPHITE

Includes one router card (1FC x 2 LVD SCSI), 2 VHDCI-VHDCI SCSI cables,
User Guide CD. This SKU is for all MSL5000 Graphite colored libraries.
It is highly recommended that an installation HP Care Pack be ordered
    with this SKU.

    Benefits at a Glance

    Serverless Backup Support
Customer selectable 2 Gb/1Gb Fibre Channel Support
    Web Based Management
    LVD SCSI Support
Supports 2 Gb or 1Gb FC
Provides connectivity for up to 2 tape drives per SCSI bus

Which was enough to reassure me, so I just wnt ahead and tried it, and
it works well. The SCSI buses do indeed seem to be separate, as I have
the library and drives set up with the same SCSI IDs on both of them.
I now have 4 drives and 48 tape slots on my SAN, and visible to my ES40
and windows/linux machines. Even better, the device files under Tru64
didn't change for the devices that were originally direct-attach SCSI.

Thanks again,

Andrew
