[SUMMARY]: Re: Fwd: Help: KZPBA card configuration: System cannot see device

Hello,
As always thanks for all the helpful information: As it turned I was
using an incorrect card. A KZPBA-CX (single ended) was supposed to be
shipped with the system but the card was a KZPBA-CY (which, apparently,
is a differential). I would need to purchase a KZPBA-CX or an diff-SE
adapter.

>>>>Suggestion received...
Dr. Thomas Blin - Offered extensive information on SCSI configuration
and suggested pricing a KZPA-CX before purchasing the adapter.
Matt Morris - Suggested confirming the firmware versions
Denise McCracken - Had extensively researched this problem and reported
that the KZPBA-CY is only compatible with TRU 64 ver5.1B
Benjamin Ingwesen: Also, pointed out (and went above and beyond and
called me to assist) that this was a differential card and I needed a
SE.
John Farmer: Pointed out the issue with a HSZ70 controller and v77Z
of the firmware. Is the storage device an HSZ70 controller?
>> John's information: There is a problem with v77Z of the firmware in
which the controller looses
the value of a setting known as VENDOR_ID. This results in problems
in
which the HSZ70 controller has difficulties seeing/using disks.

The 'dangerous' command is used to fix this problem. There are also
several
patches available - one of which prevents the problem from occurring
again.
The format of the command is
HSZ70> dangerous <somecodeprovidedbyhp> VENDOR_ID="DEC"<<<<

Thank again
Jane

Hello

I am trying to configure a KZPBA on an ES40 running TRU64 V5.1A. When
I install the card initially the system will not boot. There are
various cam_logger errors and memory errors.
>>>/var/adm/messages info:
contig_malloc: cannot find memory in saved list
cam_logger: SCSI event packages
cam_logger: bus 2
isp_get_console_image
Unable to allocate contig memory
isp_init
Unable to read back firmware from chip

I found a document indicating to change the SCSI ID 7 default to 6 due
to a conflict with the RAID controller
>>>run bios pka0
set pka0_host_id 6
boot genvmunix
doconfig

I then had to do a
set console_memory_allocation new
init
boot genvmunix
doconfig

The system will boot but the device cannot be seen. I have run the
dsfmgr and hwmgr utilities. I have booted from the cdrom, copied over
the genvmunix, removed the dec_hw_db and dec_hw_db.bak in an attempt to
have them be rebuilt.

They system acts as if the card was not even attached. I do not have
any devices in my /dev/ntape or /dev/tape

I would be grateful for a direction to head in! Will summarize.
Thanks
