Cluster Upgrade

Managers,

I have a 2-node cluster running v5.1 and need to do a rolling upgrade
to v5.1b on 2 ES40's to enable a project I have running to install a new
version of some Oracle software. Both servers are running on firmware
v5.9

Now here's the catch - a while ago I experienced a TIG error on the
NVRAM on the primary node and was advised that to by-pass this there was
a jumper on the motherboard which I could change to enable the server to
run (the only downside being that I couldn't update any changes in the
NVRAM). Now I have a replacement motherboard but not the required
downtime to change it (that will not be possible for atleast another 3-4
months).

I have just looked on the firmware site and it says that the minimum
required firmware for Tru64 v5.1b is 6.3!!! 2 questions.....

1) If I went ahead with the OS upgrade but didn't do the firmware would
I experience any problems on the lead member when running?

2) With the NVRAM not being updateable will this still allow me to
update the firmware without any problems (I don't want to get half way
through the firmware update and find that it crashes out and renders the
server useless until I replace the motherboard)?

As I mentioned above the OS upgrade needs to be done this weekend or it
will have a MAJOR financial impact on the project.

Regards

Andy
