      Hello,
The following people replied to my question regarding DVD in DS15
and many thanks. It is a pity that one cannot have the facility to
use it. But at least one can use it to write CD's.

Officially no, because of the CSS encryption of the DVD
there is no DVD player that I am aware of for Tru64.

However, if you look around at Linux software for ripping
DVD's you may find some utilities that will allow VOBS from
the DVD to be decoded to mpeg2, and then you can view the
raw mpeg2 files using something like mplayer for Tru64.

This is a lot of effort, and not really a strength of the
DS15 AlphaServer. The legality of doing this will vary by country (for
example in USA you would be in breach of the federal DMCA law by
     circumventing the CSS copy protection).

It is extrememly unlikely that anyone has ported a DVD player to Tru64
UNIX. You *might* find something on Linux that you could port, but even if
you did, the odds are excellent that the driver for DVD file system access
in Tru64 UNIX won't work to do what you want.

Your best bet is to remove the DVD drive from the DS15, put it in a
compatible PC or Mac, and use that system to watch DVD films. Then you could
use the DVD/CD-RW drive to watch DVD files. It's not a hardware issue, it's
about software support and the Tru64 UNIX OS is simply not a preferred
platform for that kind of use.

Or just purchase a DVD film viewer; they are cheap these days, at least in
the US.

Rubén Cortegoso suggested to install ogle and try the luck.
