A single volume is limited to either 1TB or 2TB depending on
which version of Tru64 UNIX you are using.
In theory, v5.1a _WITH_ Patch Kit 3 can handle 2TB volumes, as
well as v5.1b and later.
_HOWEVER_, some utilities may still be coded using signed 32 bit
ints and as a result may show negative numbers when displaying
disk information. Any such utilities should be reported to HP
Tru64 UNIX customer support.
AdvFS (with the advanced licence) can combine multiple volumes
using addvol to create a much larger file system. AdvFS can
create file systems of up to 256 volumes, and individual files
can be up to 16TB in size.
Alan Rollow:
Before V5 the disk size limit was documented. For
UFS it was 128 MB and for AdvFS I think it was 1 TB
(or a bit less). The 128 MB limit for UFS seemed
to be a testing limitation, since the file system
could certainly address more. Through early versions
of V5, I noticed problems with UFS approaching 1 TB.
I recall reading a summary from this mailing list that
recent V5 versions may have raised the limit to 2 TB.
It may be documented in the release notes, QuickSpecs,
SPD or Technical Overview for the particular version.
It really should be documented somewhere, but I couldn't
find it for V5.1B.
