Thanks to Tom Blinn, Lucio Chiappetti, and Phil Baldwin for replying and
pointing me in the right direction.

After reading everyone's replies it became apparent the problem was a host
resolution problem, not a mail problem. We had an unusual entry in the
/etc/resolv.conf file for the domain. We also decided to setup DNS on this
box. The DNS setup changed the domain entry in the resolv.conf file to the
valid domain. Mail is now working!

Subject: mailx on Tru64 v5.1

Hi Managers,

Mail stopped working on one of our Tru64 boxes a few days ago. We didn't
make any changes to the box. We are using mail forwarding. When I try to
send a mail I get the following errors:

# /usr/bin/mailx -v -s "hello" tige.vollrath@nisc.cc < /tmp/file.tmp
getmxrr: res_search (smtp.westriv.com) failed with impossible h_errno (0)

tige.vollrath@nisc.cc... Operating system error
/dead.letter... Saved message in /dead.letter

We have tried restarting sendmail, rebooting, and going through mail setup
again. I haven't had much luck finding any solutions online. I have also
tried to send mail through another mail forwarding server and got the same
error.

Does anyone know the cause and/or a fix for the error?

Thank you!
