It appears to have been in the way bcheckrc was mounting the device.
I came back into it with only / mounted, then
did mount_advfs usr_domain#usr /usr , bascially without the mount flags
that bcheckrc was using ( -F X0400 ), and then it got past it and it
worked.
We are not running clusters, so I could go from 5.1 to 5.1b. Thanks to
Bob Collins who reported that in a clustered env, you have to do 5.1a 1st.
