In a nutshell -- no and no. To add in a drive to the raidset I have to completely rebuild it. To add additional drives to the cabinet they have to be the same size.

1) No. You have to backup the data, take the device out
of service, delete the logical unit, delete the storage
set, create a new storage set and logical unit, get the
host to see it, create a file system on it and restore
the data.
2) For most intents and purposes, yes you have to use the
same size drives in an array. I think the firmware of the
HSZ22 will let you use different size drives, but it limits
the space used to that of the smallest drive in the set.
I don't think the remaining space is available.

ORIGINAL QUESTION

Hi,
We have an AS 800 running 5.1A PK6 with an RA3000/HSZ22 attached to it. The RA3K has 5 18 gb disks (DSRZ1ED-VW) in it (2 empty slots). Of these 5 - 4 of them are being used as a RAID5 Array and the 5th is a hot spare. Since this is no longer a production box and we are short on disk space we're thinking of converting the hot spare to be part of the RAID5. Longer term we would like to populate the 2 currently empty slots with new drives.
Two questions:
1 - Can I just add the hot spare to the raid5 set without having to reconfigure the raid set?
2 - Longer term: for raid5 do I have to use the same size drives (18 gb) or can I add 36 gb drives into the raidset?
