Samba Replacement on Tru64

Fellow Sysadmins,

I've got a question about heterogeneous environments. This question is not perhaps a pure Tru64 question but since I am trying to identify solutions for a Tru64 platform, I thought about trying this list first.

We run SAP applications like R/3 & CRM in a heterogeneous environment. The backend database servers are Tru64 & the application servers are Wintel. Since the Central Instance is on a UNIX server, the trans, global, profile & exe directories need to be shared with the Wintel application server via samba. It's somewhat disconcerting trying to support a mission critical application with an unsupported product like Samba. Upon investigation Advanced Server for UNIX was identified as a possible substitute product.

My questions are -

a. Is there anyone who is running SAP Application using Advanced Server for UNIX? If so, what are your experiences if you don't mind sharing them with us?

b. I noticed you can get Samba support from quite a few companies http://us1.samba.org/samba/support/us.html However, how does one pick a particular company to provide support for Samba from all these organizations? Is there anyone who is paying for Samba support and has good stories about their vendor? If so, can you please share them with us?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

Tks & Rgds,

Alay Shah
