what the list said

Afternoon all,

Here is a general summary of what the list said to do for help, with
comments excerpted from various emails below.
The consensus was to buy the book ISBN 1-55558-255-9 , which I did and
I find that ALL folks preferred this book over the other book at Amazon.
The rest of the replies stated :

>>>>if you are an experienced sysadm even of more tricky unixes like Linux,
you should have no difficulty in using the original Tru64 documentation.
My path was SunOS Ultrix Solaris DU3.2 and Tru64 4.0, with all the former
I had the original documentation, for the latter I used the online one at
HP site http://h30097.www3.hp.com/docs/pub_page/V40G_DOCS/V40G_DOCLIST.HTM
You should figure out from there how to find the one for 5.x
Can't remember how I did it, but I have a file /etc/routes.
There used to be a number of shell scripts (called something *setup, e.g.
maybe netsetup) to assist in this, later replaced by a GUI, I believe you
invoke it as /usr/sbin/checklist and should be self-explanatory.

and
>>>>>>
/etc/routes

and
>>>>>>
default route is set in /etc/routes
You can also set it through sysman.

Other information you might want to read is the AdvFS docs (if you don't
have
the printed one, man advfs -- it will give you a good start on what
commands
to read the pages for). Really -- I think the Tru64 man pages are better
than the ones with any other
Unix - it's a good start for reading up on things.

If you keep it vanilla, it will be easy to maintain. The best part is,
with
64-bit, you will have good to great performance without a lot of tweaking.

A key thing to investigate is Advanced File System (ADVFS). It will let
you migrate from failing disks/disk arrays to new ones while Oracle is
running.

//////// As a list, I must say that the response is great, which gives
confidence to tackling a new OS knowing you are not alone. I also am
surprised as to the amount of tru64 out there and the amount of members on
the list. tru must be good.

I am working on a dual CCIE, (security and service provider) and if you
know anything about Cisco, you understand how grueling the cert can be.
If any of you need any help with security, scanning, network design or
trouble shooting, don't hesitate to ask me.

-- Thank you-
