Thanks all for the answers and advice to my question
on writing a backup script to run in the background
with a log file and be able to be killed if needed. I
received responses from David Knight, Alan Rollow,
Phil Farrel, Dr. Thomas Blin, Chris Bryant, Tom Linden
and Martin Ronde-Andersen

Some suggested a class, I probably need more than one.
 Others suggested the man help. David Knight gave a
very detailed sample script and description of the
commands used. Including running in the korn shell,
the $1 positional parameter and the kill PID command.
