I confess I am a Unix rookie "you will see by my
question" who is knowledgeable in OpenVMS, but who is
joining the Unix World with great interest.
How can I accomplish the following with Tru64 5.1B.
run a tar command (backup to tape) and a "mt unload"
in a script
running the script in the background (I am returned to
the command line after submitting)
know what process number I just started and how to
kill it if it hangs
have the backup output go to a directory and file that
I specify
