hi all -

my overnight backups to an HP DLT4000 8-tape library have just started
failing with the following error

 dump: Dumping from host arthur
dump: Date of this level 0 dump: Thu Jul 31 22:32:38 2003 BST
dump: Date of last level 0 dump: the start of the epoch
 dump: Dumping /dev/rdisk/dsk5g (/usr) to /dev/ntape/tape0c
dump: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
 dump: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
 dump: Cannot get semaphores
get_semaphore(): semget() for fifo_ready_semid: No space left on device
 dump: SIGTERM received
dump: Unexpected signal -- attempting to rewrite from last checkpoint
 dump: Cannot remove semaphores
remove_semaphore(): semctl() for fifo_ready_semid: Invalid argument
 dump: Rewinding and unloading tape
dump: Change Tape: Mount volume 1, tape # 0001
dump: Device /dev/ntape/tape0c not ready for I/O.
dump: Cannot fopen /dev/tty for reading
query(): fopen(): No such device or address
 dump: SIGTERM received
dump: The ENTIRE dump is aborted
 dump: SIGTERM received
dump: The ENTIRE dump is aborted

anyone any idead what this means ?

this is on an AlphaStation 500/500 with Tru64 v5.1 PK6.

if i 'manually' load a tape using mcutil i can read/write to it OK but
my backup shell script produces the errors above.

TIA,

 john
