Tom Blinn and Doug Creamer to the rescue.

An email to bill.creamer@hp.com containing my
Networker Registration-page details resulted
in a new set of authorisation codes from Legato
*within the hour*!

Sometimes this list is like a hotline to God.

Thanks to all who responded, both with their commiserations
and encouragements to 'hang in there'.

Cheers,
Terry.

>Hi all,
>I'm in a mess with my Legato Networker. We are in the process of
>moving our ip addresses into the 10. private network range, and
>I've changed the ip address of my Legato Networker server.
>
>Networker decided that this was a bad thing, and required me to
>get new authorisation for its enabler codes, telling me to
>contact Legato for this and giving me 15 days grace before it
>refused to let me backup. I duly did so, and was told that as
>my Networker license was an OEM version, I would have to
>transfer it to Legato, at a cost of 2500 pounds, or contact
>my reseller to get them to somehow get me a new set of
>authorisation codes.
>
>I duly contacted my reseller, who hadnt the faintest idea what
>to do. The license was first issued by DEC back in 1998,
>with a straightforward set of instructions on how to get the
>authorisation codes by emailing enabler-code details to
>networker@mail.dec.com. Needless to say, this route no longer
>works, so I contacted HP. So far, (7 days later) HP still havent
>managed to tell me what to do.
>
>I find this business quite ridiculous. I am now having to hack
>my nsr.res file every month in order to persuade Networker
>to let me go on using it in Evaluation mode to do my backups,
>and all because I changed my ip address.
>
>Any ideas anyone? Is a Networker license still offered as an
>OEM product by the New HP? If so, what are the instructions
>for obtaining authorisation - maybe they would work for me.
