No power-up/shutdown messages displayed on monitor

Greetings Tru64 Managers,

I have been told that one of our remote servers (DS10 running Tru64
4.0G having 8MB Elsa Gloria Synergy video card) after a power outage,
has stoped showing any boot-up messages on the monitor screen during
bootup (the screen is black during bootup instead of the normal blue
background and white text messages of vmunix loading)...

The interesting thing (as I have been told by the remote user) is that
once the system is up, the Xlogin screen is displayed properly on the
monitor and ready for the user to type his/her username and passward to
log in...

I also been told that when the system is being shutdown, the screen
turns to black again (as opposed to blue) and the SRM prompt ">>>" does
NOT come up at the end..therefore the system operator is not able to
tell if the machine has completed its shutdown and is now ready to be
switched-off.

The first thing came to my mind was to check the "console" SRM
environment variable and see if that has been changed accidentally to
"terminal" instead of "graphics"...Since the server is in a remote
location and hence the SRM console is not coming up on the monitor
during power up and shutdown, the only way I know of that I could check
the SRM env variables is to log on remotely and issue the command:

#> consvar -g console

To my disappointement, that command returned "graphics", which means the
problem is probably more serious than what I first thought...

So I wonder if anyone have come across something like this before and
could give me direction and more help of where to go from here to find
the reason why this is happening and ways to rectife the problem and get
the bootup/shutdown messages displayed back on the monitor as before...

I should probably say that apart from this weird problem of
bootup/shutdown messages not being displayed on the mointor, the
hardware seems to work fine without any other problems...

Thanks for your help,
Alen
