Hello Managers ,
                  This is the summary for
enabling a disk on my mylex controller .

I had answers within 10 min of my posting but had to wait till machine
had lighter load to try .

Thanks all for responding

You can either use swxcrmgr on-line or boot from the RAID utility floppy
and set the drive online there.

  You have two options.

Option 1.

run "swxcrmgr" from your GUI console

Option 2.

Shutdown and halt the machine to SRM console, then go to AlphaBIOS (type
"al") and put your Mylex for Alpha Systems diskette into the floppy
drive. Then run "ra200rcu" utility.

Both of these utlities should give you an option to set drive back
online. But I'm not sure about this. Usually when a disk fails in our
RAID-5 set and a Hotspare jumps in, the failed drive reads "FLD" (
FaiLeD). When we replace it, it reads "RDY" (ReaDY). Then we have to
manually set it as a "HSP" (Hot SPare).

You might be required to do some monkeying around.

As far as i know, you have to start the mylex-tool (i think ra200rcu.exe
)from floppy to bring the mirror back online.

I have used swxcrmgr, as an exported X-window display to do this - but
on a 4100 - may be similar to ES40

----------Collins Roberts
You will need to run the offline utility to reconfigure the failed
drive. You should have received a floppy disk when you received the
Mylex controller called "Standalone conficuration utilities". If you do
not have this the program on the Alpha Firmware Update CD can be used.
It is in the *utilities* directory and may be one level further down
*swxcr* or *ra200* depending on the version of Firmware CD you use. The
utility is named ra200rcu.exe. If all this fails then the utility can be
downloaded from here: (click on the » RCU offline config utility link
on the right)

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/alphaserver/products/storage/ra230/index.html

There is also an rcu users guide at this location that will lead you
through the steps needed to re-enable your raid unit.

On SRM prompt type >>>arc

It will give you option for running the program from
floppy . Go to the option running maintenance program
.
Give the a:\rcu2000.exe as command. Before that put
the raid controller maintenance floppy. Once this
program has been run you will raid controller access
which will give you the option to make the offline
disk as online.

Save the config. Also save the config on floppy so
that you restore it on the controller in case of any
failture.
Well I tried it with swxcrmgr and the disk is online now.
Thanks once again and a nice weekend to all.
