boot problem: "AOL spider-WN07"

I have an AlphaServer 4100 that stopped booting.
Initially it would die with "Starting Console..."
in the LCD display. (Normally, the next step after
this in the boot sequence is "Starting CPU 3".)

Sometimes, however, it would go a little further,
complete its "graphics init", and then report
power-on diagnostic failures for IOD0 and IOD1
(interfaces between backplane and PCI bus).

I discovered that the IOD0/1 card is very locked in
mechanically, so I just bought a whole new chassis
(including backplane, IOD0/1 and PCI cage).

NOW my boot gets further, but stops with an error
message in the LCD display "AOL spider-WN07". It
does this regardless of what cards I insert or omit
from the PCI cage. I would suspect that my whole
PCI cage is still incommunicado, EXCEPT that after
"graphics init" I do get some AlphaServer text
displayed on the video out (through the Number9 video
card).

Tomorrow I am going over to my used equipment vendor
with a CPU card in hand, and will try selecting another
chassis.

But does anyone know what "AOL spider-WN07" means,
or does anyone have any other suggestions?
